Tembin, called Vinta in the Philippines, caused widespread flooding and triggered landslides, CNN affiliate CNN Philippines reported.
Most of the deaths --- 25 people -- occurred in Lanao del Norte, the affiliate reported, citing the provincial disaster management officials.
An additional 10 people died as a result of landslides in Lanao del Sur, Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman told the affiliate.
Other fatalities included a 4-year-old who died after being trapped in a landslide in Payao town, a local official told CNN Philippines.
Two people died in a landslide in Valencia City while a prisoner was killed when the jail's roof collapsed due to strong winds and rains in Butuan City, CNN Philippines reported, citing the Philippine Red Cross.
By Saturday morning, Temblin was packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kph (50 mph). The storm is headed toward the island province of Palawan, according to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration.
