
Snow may cause some travel disruption but flooding could be the main issue for holidaymakers heading home after the Easter break with significant amounts of rain predicted.
Multiple weather warnings for snow and heavy rain are in place from Sunday into Monday afternoon across many parts with another alert for rain issued for Northern Ireland for Tuesday morning.
Heavy rain will start to move across the country from the south-west during Sunday.
A series of weather fronts will come up against colder air turning to heavy snow in places. A covering is possible - mainly at higher levels - and there could be drifting in strong winds.
Areas most at risk of disruptive snowfall are across the northern Pennines and Scottish Borders where there is a chance of around four inches (10cm) of snow accumulating.
Snow is then likely to gradually turn to rain with torrential downpours expected to soak much of the country as milder air takes charge during Monday afternoon.
Official yellow weather warnings for snow and heavy rain remain across much of the country from Sunday afternoon through to 4pm on Monday.
The rain warning covers the East Midlands, Wales, West Midlands, London & southeast England, southwest England and northwest England from 5pm on Sunday until 4pm on Monday.
The snow alert covers much of Scotland, northern England, eastern Wales and the Midlands from the early hours of Monday morning until 11.45pm.
The alert for rain continues into Tuesday morning for Northern Ireland.
Forecaster Dr Mciahel de Villiers, of The Weather Channel said: "The passing of a marked low pressure cell in a north-easterly direction over the north-west of Europe will bring a generally milder southerly to south-westerly air flow.
"After a chilly Sunday with snow over the north of the British Isles into Sunday night and Monday morning, maximum temperatures are expected to be widely above normal for the time of the year in the mid to high teens C.
