Brexit negotiations latest

Copyright: PA

There's been quite a flurry of people on the UK's TV and radio airwaves who are unhappy with the idea of the proposed Brexit agreement.

The latest is the former UKIP leader and leading Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, who has called the draft “the worst deal in history”.

Appearing on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the MEP said the government would pay in excess of £40bn for “precisely nothing” and have to stick with EU rules as a result of the agreement.

“Nothing has been achieved, other than giving away a huge sum of money,” he said.

“And the truth of it is, in any negotiation in life, in any business negotiation, the other side needs to know that you are serious about walking away.

“What Monsieur Barnier [the EU’s chief negotiator] knew from day one is that at no point did Theresa May intend to walk away.

“I just hope we see today in the cabinet and later on in the House of Commons our politicians realising we didn’t just vote to leave in a referendum, we backed it up in a general election as well.

“It is now a fundamental matter of trust between the electorate of our country and those that govern.”
